Le 26.4.1480, Walter Maes, fils du défunt Gian, loue une maison en compagnie de Gaspar Weerbecke et Éloi Cokere, dont le loyer élevé et le voisinage prestigieux indiquent qu’il s’agissait d’une résidence cossue dans un quartier aisé. 8 jours auparavant, il avait désigné des procureurs, dont un Henricus Maes de Malines pour percevoir la provision et le revenu de son canonicat de Liere, avec les chanteurs Eloi Cokere, Weerbecke et Hanon comme témoins. Le même Henricus Maes figure le 8 .8.1480 parmi les procureurs désignés par Cokere pour prendre possession de son nouveau bénéfice à Saint Walburge [de Furnes] (Merkley & Merkley 1999, p. 250-51). Ce Henri Maes est du toute évidence l’auteur d’un Mystère de Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs représenté à Malines en 1493 en présence de Philippe le Beau (Speakman Sutch 2003, p. 97). “Her Woutre Maes” est d’ailleurs inscrit parmi les membres de la chambre de rhétorique malinoise “de Poene” (la pivoine).\n\nL’identification avec le chapelain pontifical est peu claire. Merkley1999 ne mentionne pas son service bourguignon. Une remarque p.244 est peu claire, puisque Wautre est inclus dans les chanteurs libérés de leurs obligations milanaises en 1477 comme un membre “transitionnel”, alors qu’il n’est pas dans la liste publiée p. 243. Le chanteur pontifical semble s’être nommé Jean et non Gauthier. La confusion avec Gauthier Henri doit également être éclaircie.\n\nEngagé en 1466, don de 16£ du nouveau duc dès juillet 1467 (1467R, f. 201), un des rares chantres directement promus de sommelier à chapelain, présent en continu jusqu’en octobre 1479. Absent pour se rendre à Rome puis Milan, de retour en 1482, reçoit avec Jean Sampain* un don comme “prêtres chantres de la chapelle” en juillet, “outre et pardessus leurs gaiges qu’ilz ont et prendent par les escroes” (1482R, f.219), mais ne figure ni sur la liste d’habillement pour les obsèques de Marie de Bourgogne en mars-avril, ni sur aucun des escroes conservés à partir de déc. 1482.\n\nMatthews1998 le signale à Milan avec Daniel Stach dans les années 1480 ss préciser. Merkley1999, pp. 250-1, précise: vers 1480 (il ne figure pas sur la liste de 1480), le chanteur pontifical Walter Maes est recruté pour venir à Milan. Qualifié de “cantoris capelle urbe”, il fait parvenir une supplique pour demander 3 mois de salaire d’avance afin de pouvoir entrer dans le duché à cheval et non à pied, “comme un mendiant… obligé de vendre sa dernière tunique” (il évoque également Maximilien). Le loyer élevé (22 ducats d’or par an) indique qu’il s’agissait là d’une maison cossue dans un quartier aisé, ce qui contraste assez fortement avec la fin de son séjour romain. 8 jours auparavant, il avait désigné des procureurs, dont un Henricus Maes de Malines pour percevoir la provision et le revenu de son canonicat de Liere, diocèse de Cambrai, avec Eloi Cokere, Weerbecke et Hanon parmi les témoins de cet acte. Le même Henricus Maes figure le 8 août 1480 parmi les procureurs désignés par Eloi Cokere de Bruxelles, clerc de Cambrai et chanteur du duc de Milan, pour prendre possession de son nouveau bénéfice à Saint Walburge, diocèse de Thérouanne [ss doute de Furne]. Il est de nouveau au service de Maximilien en août 1482, bien qu’il ne figure sur aucun escroe de cette période. Strohm1985, App.A, p.185 signale un Jacobus Maes comme clericus chantre de St-Donatien, cité le 27.9.1480.  Les F-AD 59 contiennent de nombreux documents concernant la succession d’un Jacques Maes, décédé ca. 1465 (dont un doc. de 1470 qui mentionne le chanteur Bauduin Spoet). L’App. A contient également mention d’un Johannes Maes, cappellanus de St-Sauveur cit.1474, qui résigne en faveur de Ph. Bollaert et décède ap. 1510. Il propose de l’identifier au Johannes Maas qui chanta à St-Pierre de Rome, en 1467 (Haberl, p.237). L’annexe de Wouters-Schreurs1996, p.125, renvoie à Hasenbroekx1990 sur l’histoire du chapitre de St-Gommaire de Lierre: il signale un document daté du 24.4.1484 qui indique que Walter Maes est alors décédé à Malines, qu’il était écolâtre de Bruxelles et possédait la 9e prébende de Lierre, où il est enterré. Le 26.9.1411, Gilles Contor, clerc, avait obtenu cette chantrerie de la reine Isabeau de Bavière (qui jouissait du comté de Melun en vertu de la donation que Charles VI lui en avait faite en 1404), et avait été reçu et installé le 27, avec expresse protestation du chapitre contre sa réception et installation (“si dictus non esset persona habilis, sufficiens et idonea ad beneficiam praedictum obtinendum seu in aetate competente”). Le même jour, 26 septembre, Maigret, qualifié de diacre et serviteur de la chapelle du roi, avait obtenu de semblables lettres de nomination à la chantrerie, mais directement du roi. Sa réception et installation se fit le 27, mais le procureur de Contor y forma opposition. Maigret semble être resté en possession de la chantrerie, qu'il remit entre les mains de Charles VI. Celui-ci en disposa 1412 en faveur de Denis de Chastillon (La Fortelle 1845, p. 56-57).\n• Chapelle royale de France, 1411-1422. Des motets de Pierre Maillart ont été publiés dans le recueil imprimé à Nuremberg, mentionné quelques lignes plus haut.\n\nFETIS : Des renseignements qui précèdent il résulte que Jean Bonmarché naquit vers 1520, comme il a été dit précédemment; qu'il fut chanoine et mattre des enfants de chœur à l'église de Cambrai; qu'il était alors considéré comme un des habiles musiciens et des compositeurs les plus distingués des Pays-Bas; et, enfin, qu'il entra au service du roi d'Espagne Philippe II, connue maître de chapelle, au commencement de l i65. D'après des renseignements nouveaux qui me sont parvenus d'Espagne, il c\\iste en manuscrit dans la bibliothèque de l'Escortai plusieurs messes et motets de ce maître. Il parait que Bonmarché s'esl retiré à Valenciennes dans sa vieillesse, car Pierre Maillart (voy. ce nom) fut son élève, lorsqu'il était dans cette ville. Le même Maillart nous apprend que ce maître avait écrit un traité de musique qu'il avait donné a son élève et qui n'a pas été imprimé ( Voyez Les Tons de Pierre Maillart, p. 346).\n\nCharles Maillart, son frère sans doute, figure aussi dans le même rôle, comme enfant de la chapelle, avec la désignation des « chapelles de Valenciennes » pour bénéfice.\n\n\nRecherches sur l'histoire et l'architecture de l'église cathédrale de Notre-Dame de Tournai, Tournai, 1842 Idesbald Le Maistre d'Anstaing\nTome I, p. 225 : CHAPELLE DE SAINT-PAUL.\nNous ignorons l'auteur et l'année de sa fondation; nous savons seulement qu'elle fut restaurée en 1526, par Jean de Trouille chanoine, qui fonda aussi la fête double de Saint-Paul, hermite. Il donna la belle croix dorée et un ciboire en argent d'un travail très-fini, dans lequel on portait le Saint-Sacrement dans les processions.\nLes vitraux peints des chapelles de ce côté n'avaient rien de remarquable ; ceux de la première, qui existent encore, représentent dans un petit tableau, Saint-Paul visitant dans le désert l'hermite Saint-Antoine.\nPlus bas, un pavillon au-dessus duquel on voit des anges.\n\nLa clôture en marbre blanc et noir avait été donnée par Pierre Maillart, chanoine, qui fit aussi réparer et orner la chapelle, laquelle avait souffert, comme toutes les autres, des déprédations des sectaires en 1566.
